Envy

Taps, I really envy the clarity and creativity in your writing. Also, the way you take

a basic subject and make it very interesting reminds me a little of John McPhee.

TAPS

I last wore my suit on March 26, 2009, since then it's cord's and shirts.

My dear friend you just wrote my story, well almost. I sorely miss the days when there was not a single woman on the downtown streets in pants. Not only were we dressed up but the very thought of self service the store clerks treated you as if you were royalty. I loved this post.

No I don't wear Panty hose either Taps . I was a bit annoyed when I ordered some pants on line and they came with a logo round them. Especially when Arthur caustically said they probably cost twice as much as normal ones. Also I am amazed at the price of some dresses they are priced out of reach, and you just can't beat a mini skirt.

My mom dressed up always, and everything matched - clothes, heels, purse, jewels - until the day she was unable to move. The glamour of it all! It reminds me - I can't remember the last time I wore a dress....

TAPS

I have five really good suits and a tux hanging in my closet. In 2014 I wore one of the suits once, and the tux once as well - on New Year's Eve. It's a tradition I'm not giving up...Other than that it's jeans and varous kinds of shirts, preferably Henley's. And in summer I love shorts...

I feel that what you do here on Blogit is indeed writing...It is interesting how much fashion has changed over the decades.

I am in step with you here in this Post. I don't own any pantyhose anymore yet for me when they were born and suspenders went it was wonderful...There is nowhere to dress up here so I don't and if I do once a year I wear comfy pants and shoes and dress up with the tiniest bit of make up and really quality jewellery being lucky to own some...then I think one can go anywhere these days.

Even going to the theatre at the Opera House in Sydney there were very few dressed in theatre clothes. No one has a cocktail dress anymore let alone long and formal with gloves.

Ladies dressed up, didn't wear slacks much until the 70s. I can

remember when it became "kosher" to wear pants suits to work. Saw a photo of my mother-in-law the other day - taken in late '70s. She was wearing a dark skirt, white blouse, dress shoes with hose, and a little knit jacket. She and my father-in-law may have been getting ready to go to a neighborhood restaurant for dinner or shopping. I'd forgotten how put-together she was.

Always dress for comfort, I always say! I've seen plenty of those old movies as well, and it's nice to see men always in shirts and ties ( and hats ), and women always in nice dresses ( and sometimes hats ). Everyone always looked so neat and clean and sophisticated, like they actually cared what they looked like in front of others. Where have those days gone? By the way, be thankful you gave up those high heels! They're no longer worth the risk of serious foot, leg, hip and ankle injuries . . .
