Re: Re: Re:

I have a feeling, Kabu, that the wine market is probably so diverse and so spread out, that sometimes people aren't really aware of where their wine is actually produced! But if someone is really into wines, they may not necessarily care . . .

Re: Re:

oh what a shame because we do have beautiful wines and a good price too. i will try a New Jersey wine if I see one some time.I don't think we import each others wines often though.

Re:

Thanks, adnohr. That's at least one vote of confidence. You would think that, whether the person was a wine connoisseur or not, they'd at least give it a try! Hey, there might actually be vineyards in Guam, the Galapagos Islands or Bora Bora that produce excellent wines! You'd never know how good they were until you gave 'em a try . . .

Re: JimmyA

That might actually work, Sir Wiley! Although I actually don't know the names of any of those Jersey wines, I hope none of them have names like 'Jersey's Oil Slick Chardonnay' or Jersey's Landfill Merlot' or 'Jersey's Murder Capitol Pinot Noir!' Won't get a lot of buyers that way . . .

Re:

I've never heard of wines from Australia either, Kabu, but I suppose, if the conditions are right, wine can be produced almost anywhere! Like I wrote, I very rarely drink wine, but on the off occasion when I do, I actually prefer white to red ( regardless of what I may be eating at the time! ). Most red wines have a bitter taste to me. So, how about those Canadian wines . . . ?

Re:

I'm sure they do, TAPS. If we can make it here in Jersey, I'm sure they can make it in Maryland. And that's funny. My older sister also started out in Jersey ( naturally ) and then went to Maryland as well ( she lived for years in a town called Laurel ). Now she's in Texas, who are probably better known for their steer than their wines . . .

Re:

Good question, FSI. I'm not sure either. Just as people have certain 'nicknames' that are given to them by others, I don't think it was anyone from Jersey who started negative rumors about the place! Someone came here and had a bad experience some years ago, went home and trashed our state, and now everyone thinks that that's the norm! How we can eventually shake this negative perception I'm not sure. Perhaps producing some decent wine for everyone is a start . . .

Re:

Something tells me, C C T, that the bulk of the wine produced here in Jersey is probably exported, and I have a feeling that many New Jerseyans aren't even aware that we have wineries right here in our backyards! I certainly wasn't really aware of it until I saw this article. For the U.S., California is most known for its wines, not New Jersey! And if you do come across any, let me know. I'd be curious as to which exact region it actually came from . . .

Re: Philly boy

Well, serious, to be perfectly honest, I really don't know of any, because, like I wrote, I'm not really much of a drinker, and very rarely have any wine, whether it's from Jersey or not! I'm sure, with a quick Google search, you probably can find out about some of those wines, and I'm sure there are wineries very near to you in Philly! Now, about those Pennsylvania wines . . .

Re:

That's true, Justi. As they say, there's good and bad everywhere, just as there's 'cool' and 'uncool.' Most New Jerseyans are pretty cool! But, like you said, I guess some people feel the need to belittle someone else in order to feel better about themselves, and I guess New Jersey has become everyone's 'punching bag' in that regard. Whatever. At least I know we have a decent state over here, and apparently, we have some decent wine as well . . .

Re: I like New Jersey - The Garden State - the state where folks have

Thanks for the kudos, Pat, and I'd have to agree with everything except the accent. A lot of times people around the country hear someone pronounce Jersey as 'Joisey,' and think that's how we all talk! However, who you're actually hearing are the New Yorkers who frequent our state and its shores. No one in New Jersey really talks like that . . .

Re: Jimmy

Are you sure, Naut? Sometimes one can be numb and not even realize it! And believe it or not, I never knew there were wineries in Jersey either ( like I said, I'm not much of a drinker ). And I'll bet those Ontario wines are just as good! Perhaps there's a trade in the making . . .

I'd certainly try it, and as I know very little about New Jersey, I would certainly not be prejudiced!

As a long recovering alcoholic I never looked down on alcohol of any kind unfortunately. LOL I think a change of name to like, 'New Jersey Extra Sun Kissed' wine would change folks thinking on the matter.

Of course I love Australian wines but I too am picky and prejudiced. I will drink South Australian wine from the Barossa valley as my first choice every time.

Good post.  My Sis lived in New Jersey for several years way back when.  Now she is in Maryland.  Do they make wine there too?

It is something how knowing where something came from can change one's perception of the product even when they would have felt the quality was fine, otherwise.

I wonder how it came to be where New Jersey was perceived negatively.

Never seen it on a bottle Jimmy plenty of California ones, masses from Chile . Everywhere you name it. Perhaps you guys drink most of it before we get a chance.

I will certainly look out for it.

Philly boy

Being a wine drinker and an old Philly boy, I never heard of wines from New jersey.   Perhaps you could name a few for me to try and compare to California and Ontario.

I do understand. It actually comes from one's personal need to be savvy and more sophisticated than anyone else. People of this ilk do not know they are simply ignorant and it shows.

I like New Jersey - The Garden State - the state where folks have

a gorgeous seashore, a great view of the Manhattan skyline, and attitude out the wazoo! Except for the accent, which is interesting and unique, they seem to me to be independent cowboy-thinkers with a pioneering instinct. What's not to like?

Jimmy

I didn't even know there was such a thing as New Jersey wine, LOL! I mostly drink our absolutely fabulous Ontario wines that have found international acclaim, and that never leave me 'numb', comfortably so or otherwise...
