I think they sometimes use both together here FS. I try not to go out on salty roads if possible as I fear it will encourage rust, The guys here at the Supermarket don't do underneath. I don't like going to that one because it seems like having an operation and leaving the swabs inside.

Interesting. When it snows enough to need any road treatment where I live no one can get out of town so we don't have this situation. I would think people would need to wash frequently to just keep the effects of salt off their cars.

They do use a lot of salt around here! But I once spent a winter in Winnipeg ('Winterpeg', LOL), where they don't use any either, but just drive on the hard-packed snow, mixed with sand - seems to work okay. Of course, I have no idea how it affects the car wash business...
