I guess so, Bill, especially if he can make a little money in the process as well . . .

Re:

It may have made him feel better, mneme, but the ironic part is, it may put some money in his pocket as well! In fact, it wouldn't suprise me if he ( and that dress ) end up doing the 'talk show circuit' some day soon! Hey, people are always starving for the new and weird . . .

I think she was making a point, Jimmy.. and I agree, revenge was pointless but I suppose it made him feel better.

Re:

That may be a possibility, C C T, but somehow I just don't think so. Like I've been saying, I don't think we'll ever know the true circumstance behind their parting. With all of the things he's said he's done with that dress, he doesn't seem particularly lazy or uncreative! Perhaps she caught him wearing that dress one day and, when she left, just couldn't bear to bring it along with her! I hope that's not the case, but since we're throwing around theories . . .

Re:

Thanks, FSI. It's what I do best! Going back to high school ( 40+ years ago ) a few of my history-related classes had a 'current event' day, where students would bring in articles to share with the class. Everyone always seemed to find the most topical ones, and most of the time, several people would bring up the exact same news piece. Not me! I always looked for the bizarre, strange, unique and unusual, and not once did someone come in with the same article I found! If this particular incident happened way back then, I would have been sharing it with my classmates . . .

Re:

It would appear that way, lovelylady! However, I sincerely doubt that not only would she have never dreamed of the things he did end up doing with that dress, but that he would publicize it as well! However, like I wrote, I doubt it will make the 'best-sellers' list. In fact, the likely audience probably won't be jilted ex's, but rather people looking to find a suitable material for their own projects. Like I said, NASA may have had a hand in that dress's construction, considering all the things he's done with it . . .

Re: The writerly part of me wants to suggest she might have been coerced

You may be right, Pat. It did seem somewhat odd that she would walk out on a 12-year marriage, take everything she owned, and only leave behind her wedding dress! It would make sense that it was a dress she never really wanted in the first place. If that's the case, than his 'vindictive memorialization' of that dress would lose a lot of meaning! But I think, if his book makes any money, it will more than make up for it . . .

Re: JimmyA

Perhaps, Sir Wiley. Who's to say for sure? If the marriage had only lasted a few years, you could say it ended up being a marriage made in Hell. But 12 years? That's a pretty substantial length of time! I'm sure he was hurt ( whether it was ego or not probably makes little difference ) but is finding a creative way of 'evening the score,' so to speak. Again, the material of that dress must be remarkable . . .

Re:

I'm sure it has, Justi. I know that many women want their daughters to one day get married in their mother's same wedding dress, but from everything I've heard and read, that's usually not the case. Most ( if not all ) new brides actually want a 'new' dress of their own choosing! Perhaps this woman was just so disgusted by their overall marriage ( I don't think we'll ever know the true circumstances behind their parting ) that the dress could have been nothing but a painful reminder. But hey, if her husband's creativity can make him some money, she may regret leaving him and the dress behind . . .

Re: Jimmy

You're right, Naut, about his creativity, and the possibility of making a few bucks on a rather bizarre situation. But even though we have no idea what lead to their splitting up ( and may never know ), something tells me that they won't be meeting for drinks one day, especially if he does make a ton of money on his book! Wait a minute! Scratch that! If he does make any money on this venture, there will be a meeting of sorts, but it will probably be between their lawyers, because she'll probably want to get her grubby little hands on some of his royalties! After all, it was her dress . . .

Well I hope she buys the book Jimmy. Perhaps she is thinking why didn't he do something like this when we were still hitched, be great if it brought them back together.

Talk about creative attempt at revenge there...It is amazing all of the things the fabric there withstood...You do a fine job at finding interesting articles, Jimmy.

Well, she did say he could do what he liked with the dress...but wow! talk about the ultimate revenge!

into wearing a gown someone else had selected, possibly one his grandmother had worn, and hated letting herself be bullied out of picking the one she really wanted. Seems like he put a lot of thought and time into the memorialization.

The guy's an angry ex husband, she walked out and trying to demean her is that his  dominated male ego was too pissed to concentrate on his own life  maybe?

I like his creativity. I can imagine her not wanting it if she was hurt enough to leave she would not want that dress because it is not sufficient to get married in again. I has lost its value to her.

Jimmy

I have no problems with that! We know absolutely nothing about her reasons for walking out on her man, so that's a wash. From then on, I have to like the guy's creative imagination, making the best of what may have been a bad/sad situation, and even making money with it. And he's probably got the dress, now 'famous', safely stored somewhere for posterity.

I can even imagine that, down the road, he and his ex might meet over drinks some day, chuckle about the whole thing and become friends again...
