Why not both?... Our bodies are the true temple of God.  In Old Testament times it was different.  In the wilderness Moses led the people by following the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night.  When it moved, they moved.  They set up their temporary house of worship in the middle of the 12 tribes of Israel who camped in very ordered rows alongside it.  Priests wore special garments and blood sacrifices were made for the atonement of sins.  (The shedding of blood goes back to Adam and Eve when God shed the blood of animals and made for them clothing to hide the shame of their nakedness).

Later on, when Israel was permanently settled in Israel, they were instructed by God to build a temple.  God gave them very clear directions and the temple was magnificent.  But no, in this day and age we don't necessarily need beautiful architecture, but through the prayers of the saints those places become holy ground, and since God owns all the cattle on a thousand hills, why not enjoy beautiful structure?

Many mainline churches are being sold off today in America because they have failed to keep a following.  They don't offer the spiritual sustenance and power that people are wanting and needing and those houses of worship are being sold off and used for different purposes.  Things are changing.  House churches have been around since the beginning and they're a great way to get aquainted with people, but sometimes it's great to gather in a really big crowd whether it be a beautiful cathedral or Yankee Stadium God has deep pockets.  He blesses us.

Together, we can foot the bill.
