My sentiments exactly, Kabu! And all it usually takes is one . . .

Re:

I'm sure he did, C C T. In fact, most dog breeds would probably have reacted the same way. It was a bizarre way to begin our stay at this wonderful hotel. We were glad the rest of the vacation was wonderful and incident-free! A bit of madness indeed . . .

Re:

No, she wasn't, FSI. My wife and I both assumed that, whether you're a dog owner or not, it was fairly common knowledge not to get eye level with any dog! I do hope she learned her lesson. Other than that incident, the rest of the trip was great . . .

Re:

Apparently, TAPS, that's all too true! And to overhear that she's actually a dog owner made it even stranger. Like I wrote, she should have known better! Regardless, yes, we had a wonderful time. Now back to the grind . . . !

A bit of madness there Jimmy, dogs do not like being eyeballed . I guess she will not do it again. Shame though poor dog acted true to type.

That was a whole lot of excitement you saw there...That woman was definitely not thinking there.

I'm glad you are back and that you had a good time in spite of this incident.  Someone should explain to that lady what she did wrong so it won't happen to her again.  Some people just don't think.

Re:

It was indeed, Kabu. Other than that unfortunate incident ( which really didn't involve us directly ) everything was absolutely wonderful. We go to this same hotel every year, and have met some delightful doggies ( along with their owners ) and this was the first time something along these lines had occurred. I guess all it takes is one non-thinking individual . . .

Re:

Absolutely, lovelylady! My wife and I aren't dog-owners, yet we knew enough not to do that! The dog was perfectly content to have us lean over and pet him with nary a problem. Why she did that was beyond us! She didn't appear to want to make a scene, or give the owner a hard time about it, but it still ruined his, and his dog's, vacation! Some people, huh? Thanks for the welcome back. I'm still trying to get into the 'swing of things' . . .

Re:

Thanks, adnohr. Yes, it was great! Short, but great . . .

Re:

As my wife sometimes puts it, adnohr, that owner may have been in 'fight or flight' mode. As far as we, and probably everyone else, was concerned, that dog did nothing wrong, and that woman brought that upon herself. But I suppose the owner just couldn't take any chances, and felt his best course of action was to simply leave. That's so terrible. I'm sure he was looking forward to a relaxing time with his doggie, only to have it ruined by an unthinking idiot! I hope she learned her lesson . . .

Re: Jimmy

I'm sure you're right, Naut, as my wife felt similarly. And it's really too bad. That was a nice doggie, and as far as we were concerned, he did nothing wrong! But I'm sure someone will claim rules are rules and laws are laws, and a dog that attacks someone will be seen as potential trouble, regardless of the actual circumstance. I think the owner left to avoid something terrible happening to his dog as much as he may have been trying to avoid a potential lawsuit! And yes, that vacation was too short . . .

No of course you don't treat a dog that way, how silly and I feel sorry for the guy and his doggie...but otherwise it seems to have been the perfect get-away.

Welcome back, Jimmy!

I'm glad to read you and your wife had such a great time!  And as far as I'm concerned, that dog did NOTHING wrong.  If you're stupid enough to go face to face with a dog you don't know, don't blame the dog for the consequences.

PS - Glad you had a great vacation!

Hmm - havng pitbulls, I don't think anyone would get eye to eye with them on first meeting, not because they would do any worse, but because of their unfounded reputation. I fully agree - the lady was NOT thinking. And as Naut said, I'd have moved on too. I wouldn't want to put my dog in a a dangerous situation created by an unwise human.

Jimmy

Welcome back from your nice (and pobably too short, LOL) vacation! And it's good to know that there are hotels that will accept pets! But what that woman did was just incredibly stupid! However, I think the owner and his dog were wise to move on - some lawyer would have found reasons to launch a huge law suit...
