You're right that's the difference between success and failure. What a tightrope! Btw, you realize you started this Renaissance with your suggestion of a book I should read. How wonderful is that?

You sound as excited as my second child upon entering first grade. I remember he came home so excited he told his little sister he would write her a book soon. I am proud of you!

Uh oh! An 88? Not bad, not bad, but I'll bet you wished they were all perfect! Regardless, it still sounds like you're doing excellent. And you just don't feel like running, eh? I don't blame you . . .

a friend of mine has a Probation Officer

whom I once had occasion to meet.  I asked her, "Is your job to help my friend work his way back into society, or to protect society from him?" She said that her job is to make sure he is in compliance with all the rules laid on him for his probation. It's an important distinction, to make clear to the person you're counseling, because he/she might not know which 'side' you are on, relative to his/her interests. My friend wasn't sure how or whether to trust her.
