There are a lot of great programs out there to keep people occupied.

Those are all good programs to suggest, but one thing has always confused me when I compare today's children to those of my childhood. Growing up, we never seemed to need a parent . . . any parent . . . to 'find' things for us to do, whether they were constructive, creative or just play. We had such imaginations back then, and could come up with all sorts of ways to delight, entertain and enrich ourselves. Are today's kids so rigidly conformed that they need a parent to tell them what to do, when to do it, how to do it, why to do it, under specific guidelines and time constraints? Can't the kids come up with any of these things on their own anymore? Again, my wife and I don't have any children. But if we did, I'm sure we would both do everything to encourage them to use their natural talents and come up with certain projects on their own. All they need is the initiative . . .
