I have to go with catcher as well. Since Jimmy provided explanation, I am not going to reinvent the wheel. Instead, I will focus on the second hardest position to play. I am going with Closer. So many of them do not have the emotional stability to handle such a role.

Oh, that's easy ( at least to me ): catcher! He is the 'quarterback' of the defensive team, and must be 'aware' of everything going on in front of him at all times! Every other player is more or less standing around until the ball is put in play. Besides the pitcher, the catcher is constantly engaged and constantly involved, all game long, regardless. And, he must squat and stand up, squat and stand up, over and over and over, for the duration of the entire game! That would wear on anybody after a while! Yep, catching has got to be the toughest position to play in baseball . . .
