Re: Re: Spoiled children or spoiled parents

You could be right. It could be the parents who are taking advantage of these 'modern changes.' The kids wouldn't know any better anyway. However, for example, I know that if cell phones had existed when I ( we ) were kids, my ( our ) parents would have probably admonished us and made sure we only used them for emergencies. I know we would have heard an earful if we walked around talking on one all day! So perhaps the 'blame' is 50-50 . . .

Re: Spoiled children or spoiled parents

I agree with you to a point.  I do believe that the government should not now or ever be involved in how we raise our children.  With that said, why are we not looking at our laws and what was the precipitating factor to these laws.  I also am a Baby Boomer and have seen the ups and downs of a life changed forever by fortune and loss.

I was a protester and never did see the good come from it.  My views are tempered by politicians and law enforcement which simply wanted to get out of the hot seat, therefore would say anything.  Yes, working hard for even the food on the dinner table was never a given, just what we were able to have that night.

Do I think children today are spoiled, Yes, but not in the sense we would have been.   They have cellphones for many reasons which are valid (safety, knowledge of area by the parents and believe it or not to gain information regarding education).  It is not the kids who are taking advantage of our lifestyle today, it is the adults.  What do you think?

When you say we are no longer a generation of selfish, spoiled children, to which generation are you referring? When I see small kids walking around today with smart phones in their hands, ignoring their parents, doing what they will, I see spoiled written all over them! Now, my generation ( the 'cusp' of the Baby-Boomers ) stepped out of post- WW II prosperity into the protest-filled anti-establishment Vietnam decade with high expectations, but ended up having to work our asses off to make ends meet! Suddenly, parents were no longer able to spend 'quality time' with their kids, nor were they allowed to reprimand or discipline them anymore in any way! How these kids are going to affect future generations will be a sight indeed . . .
