That's usually a tough call for many athletes, because regardless of their performance, many find it difficult to simply walk away from the game after putting so many years into it. But the best example of walking away while there was still 'gas in the tank' that I can recall was when the great Pele retired from the Cosmos in the late 70's. He claimed that he still felt that he had many years left to play, but didn't want to be remembered as a 'fading star,' but rather going out on top! I personally believe that others should follow suit. No matter what kind of career you've had, if your final year or two was marred with injuries or poor or inconsistent  play, that's what many people will remember! Far better to go out while still viable . . .

I think that I would rather keep going. I would hate to think that I lost one or more solid years.
