I understand everything you've said, and of course I agree. However, I have a feeling that most children, especially very young children, probably wouldn't really understand the reason and ideals behind Memorial Day, whether their parents try to explain it to them or not. I know when I was young, all it meant was a 3-day weekend, even though my father was a Korean War vet. Now that I've been a student of history, I can appreciate more the sacrifices made by the generation(s) before me when it came to defending our country and our way of life. Believe me, I do hope that more and more children can be made to understand the importance of this particular holiday! If nothing else, their parents should observe it to the fullest extend, and maybe that will inspire their kids to understand it better . . .
