I was by no means belittling or making it sound trivial...but times change...economies change....we change...the bottom line is this...unions came into existence not to rape companies but to be paid a fair wage and have decent working conditions...

this is not to say all companies...but there were enough to cause the movement to grow and spread...

a modern day example...look at papa johns...too cheap to share ... doesn't believe in sharing profits ... has a huge mansion... etc etc etc...he pays management minimum wage to start out!  look at mcdonalds...they just tripled that ceo's salary to making an obscene amount...

your business may have been one of the few that paid a good wage...unfortunately many pay for those who didn't

I remember years ago hearing someone say "If you want to make it in this world, you've got to adapt!" But I don't recall who said it, or what it was pertaining to particularly. I guess it's a general assumption, although sometimes it's very difficult for certain people. Old habits usually die hard, but that's what many people are faced with. It can be trying sometimes . . .

Its truly a sad story! But the bottomline is this: in an ever more 'globalized' economy, that is to say one in which global market forces have a large impact on 'local' markets, in short, a World Economy, companies can, will, and often must go to areas where the cost of labor is lowest...And for some time now, China is currently the country which offers a labor force that requires lower pay than that in the West, and that also has a good work ethic...

You have hit the nail on the head. Next post will cover how they trashed the garment industry right before people's eyes. This is why I get really upset when people want to hide under rock and not speak out when such as Unions take the bread out of little children's mouths. Thank you for your response.

Greed. It is easier to make a profit where the wages are frozen. I blame the crazy things that Unions did for a lot ofand multinational companies who have no loyalty to anyone except the mighty dollar. Perhaps that is too simplistic but it is awful how all the family businesses are gone and I can travel all over the World and find the same things for sale....nothing unique anywhere and all the souvenirs you buy on your travels come from China.

It is alarming what is happening to jobs and small businesses in this country. I do not have faith in either side to straighten things out. Hopefully, someone will prove me wrong.
