Re: Your post

Thank you for your suggestions, I am looking into them.  I have already checked the Journal site and it looks like a good fit.  Thank you again

my mom never did that...it was my dad who always did that...he would even pull out the dictionary and look up unusual words and ask us to spell them....if we got them right then he would give us money....when he got tired of paying he would give us a word none of us could spell

I love my mother dearly, and call her at least once a week to chat ( we live a thousand miles apart ). The last time my mom ( who turns 80 next month ) came for a visit, her, my wife and I actually played a couple of games of Scrabble, with mom winning both rounds! She really enjoyed it. However, your suggestion of using obscure words in sentences just to see if she knows what they mean or how to spell them may be a bit too much for her. That sounds like something a few of my friends and I might enjoy doing while sitting around on a Saturday afternoon, sipping a few beers. But I don't think it would be right for my mom . . .

May I make a suggestion move to Journal these sites are rarely used  and I don't think people know you are here. I guess those are American words I'll look them up in my old English dictionary. Another point which no one mentions is make a comment or two on one of the lady's blogs, I am sure they will reciprocate.
