Ruth, Gherig, Stengel and Jeter.

Another tough one, because there have been so many great Yankee players who have done so many great things! Since Mount Rushmore has four presidents on it, I'm assuming I can only choose four Yankees. Hmmm . . . almost impossible, but I'll try. Babe Ruth has to be up there because, well, he's Babe Ruth! Joe Dimaggio also has to be up there because his 56 game hitting streak is one record that will never fall! A case can be made for Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and Lou Gherig, as well as Whitey Ford, Ron Guidry, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter. Of that group, I think I'd have to go with Mantle, because he was a powerful and important switch-hitter. And last but not least, believe it or not, my final choice would be Don Mattingly. He was my all-time favorite Yankee, had the most beautiful swing I'd ever seen, could turn a 3-6-3 double-play better than any first baseman, and, although not a hall-of-famer, the fact that he began and finished his baseball career with the same team ( a rarity these days ) speaks volumes to me!

How'd I do?
