Part of the problem may be that there are just too many people out there who simply do not care, about themselves, their environment, their surroundings or their fellow beings, and that includes animals. Sometimes they're easy to spot, seeing how they conduct themselves, how they dress, how they speak, etc. Others are a little more subtle. You can go ahead and talk to them one on one, but there's a good chance you'd be wasting your time. Instead, I tend to be more defensive, doing my best to protect myself and my own, and that include my cats. I may sound pessimistic and somewhat cynical, but my 'trust factor' for people has been severely diminished over the years, and I just don't see it getting better any time soon . . .
