I think that the cycle tends to happen more. However, I imagine that the unassisted triple play would be rarer.

Both are extremely difficult, but I would think turning the triple play would be harder, for one simple reason: the circumstances would have to already be in place. There must be at least two men on base with nobody out in order for the triple play to even be possible. With the cycle, you're the batter, and you more or less have more control over 'what' you hit! Both are rare, but I believe the cycle probably has a better chance of happening . . .
