That's how it was when I was young. There were 8 of us ( including my parents ) and the dinner table became more or less the 'round table of discussion' each night. Of course everything you've stated makes perfect sense, but there's one aspect of it that seems somewhat contradictory. We're taught not to speak with our mouths full of food, but yet here we are, sitting at the dinner table, eating and talking! Strange, when you really think about it . . .
