I don't think shortening the schedule would affect the playoff seeding, but it will give some teams less time to make up any lost ground if they suddenly go into a nose dive late in the season. Twenty-two games is a huge difference!
And since you're obviously a big baseball fan, let's have some fun! Here's a brain-teaser for you, something to contemplate over the weekend: WITHOUT LOOKING IT UP, can you tell me the four ways a batter can reach first base without making contact with the ball?( people usually get the first three, but struggle with the fourth ).
