Answer to puzzle
Here is the answer that my son David gave to this puzzle.
1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 = 6/12 + 4/12 + 3/12 = 13/12. But I bet you could persuade Dan, Mary, and Paula to be a bit less precise in their wishes, and divide a single pie between the three of them.
It is a most excellent answer.
