Same thing at my house...
...my dogs are in crates during the day while I'm at work -- mainly because they shred miniblinds, dig in the trash, pee on the floor and scratch at the door until the door jambs bleed.
It never fails, though, once I get home and open that door -- they start barking their heads off -- HELLO! I know they're there, I put them there this morning when I left. AND, I let them out of their cages IMMEDIATELY upon arriving home. It's not like I've ever left them in there for even a minute after my arrival, but NO -- they have to bark at the top of their lungs just in case I may have forgotten where I left them!
