For some reason my thoughts went to the shoeshine boys of yesteryear in the train stations and other places.  Whatever happened to them?  Don't people shine their shoes anymore?

Yes one learns by experience dad is not always right. Though it is not wise to tell him outright.

so many things to be considered when making business decisions. I am thinking that from here on in, you will speak up if you feel there is a better way to do something.

Good or bad, if your instincts tell you to speak up, you should definitely speak up. At least it shows your concern for the business. I'm sure your dad would respect that regardless . . .
