Re:

Wow, That is wonderful you are able to learn so much regarding your family.  I do know that name changing to english has been very common.  I understand, but wish there was another way, so much is lost.  How far back have you gone looking at your family.  Lithuania had some very artistic people coming from there?  I once studied in a history class for about six weeks on how the Arts came from that area.

My eldest brother has stayed in contact with one of my older cousins, who works for the government in some capacity ( hush, hush!  ). But because of his position, he has access to some kind of data bank where, in his spare time, he was able to do some tracings of my family history on my father's side. Some of his discoveries have been incredible, and he is more than happy to share them with any family member who is interested.

One of the things we have learned is that my grandparents did not immigrate to the U.S. from Poland, as we had originally been lead to believe. They were actually from Lithuania, which, in the early 1900's, was considered a part of Russia! Also, my last name is Alexander. But apparently, that spelling is the English version. My grandfather's last name was actually spelled Alekzandre. But once they reached Ellis Island, the English spelling seemed simpler, and that has stuck now for 4 generations!

Tracing family histories is fun and amazing . . .
