Excellent post and very well written. Your statement about Hayek being an extreme libertarian was a surprise to me however. What I've read about him doesn't give that impression. If you want to check it out for yourself, see

Nicely put Spy
What Bush puts forth as Republicanism is not. He is using that ideology to make the people who believe in certain Republican ideals, like limited federal government and States rights and free enterprise to support his radical and violent actions. Another thing that is being perpetrated on the people of the Republican camp is that he is Godly, a God FEARING man. This is also a lie to bring the conservative christians to back him and praise him as a 'good guy.' Maybe I am being kind for a change to the Christians who are desparate to gain some power over their lives, living 2000 years after Christ and 4 more years longer than the hoped for return of their Savior. Unfortunately, when they look for a Savior to Bring about the Kingdom of God so all these righteous Christians can live in PEACE (there will be one god, one faith) their prayers are falling on the ears of Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld and they are offering up GWB as the man of the day, the will of God in the flesh. Rather than see the truth, they are blinded by their misplaced faith and can't face the humility it takes to see and say that this man is possibly the ANTI-CHRIST. But even in this, there is a deep perverse hope in Christians that even that would be GOOD NEWS, since the Anti-Christ makes his appearence before Jesus to set up the world for the final days of destruction--only insanity can lead to such joy.

Very good post, Spy.
Paul O'Neill is now attacking Bush! O'Neill! Can't get more conservative than that guy! And what's funny is, the Repukes on this sad fucking Network aren't saying a word. Like their brownshirted heroes of yore, their courage is only found in irrationality and unreason: they can't stand it when one of their own gets sane.

Very true, Spy
We are slimed big time; scrubbing off the nasty crud is hard and painful but neccessary for our survival. I'm trying to pass the brush around to any who will use it. Good, cleansing post!!

Agreed
except for "we can be a consumer society at our current levels forever". I think the right wing really wants to see exponential growth to keep stockholders happy. Our current level is not sufficient. (Course, that only speeds up the results you discussed.)
