Like anything else, customers should be given a choice for such updates. What kills me is that, everything is constantly being "upgraded." Can't these bozos get it right the first time? Each time a consumer feels they have the most sophisticated, up-dated version of something, learn all they need to use the damned thing, six months later they come out with the newest and latest version, spouting "It's even better than the last version!" And on it goes, over and over and over and . . .

What usually gets revealed is tha large corporations can push people around.  That being said, one man with a great deal of perseverence actually won a lawsuit against apple regarding a potentially faulty graphics chipset on a particular model of macbook pros.  I'mnot sure what the settlement was but good on him :).

Naut

Yes you should! :).  It is a shame that we are less and less in control of the very tools we buy for ourselves.  And most "new features" these days (from both operating systems) are nothing new under the sun - they have been around for awhile and are only now being released so they can be presented as new and exciting.  It is amazing to me how software companies can reinvent the wheel and call it something new.  One of my favorites is "natural scrolling" which apple released when it launched OS 10.7. "Lion." It is literally nothing more than reversing the way a page scrolls when you use your scroll wheel/trackball/or trackpad.  It is really shameful to call that a "new feature."

Thanks for your comment

Aside from the nut cases - MS too does automatic updates. But I am more upset over the fact that they no longer support their older systems once they have introduced their new ones! I still have XP Professional, which I much prefer to anything that came later, but as of April '14 they will no longer support it. Maybe I'll sue...
