I don't think our children would notice

Even if we were trussed up like a Christmas goose with an apple in our mouth and stuffing up our...well, you know! Not only that, we're stupid now. Just a few years ago, we were the smartest parents in the world. We were their heros. Now look at us. Brain dead, clearly socially challenged, and not fit to be around our pets. We'll stay stupid for several more years and then slowly, we'll get our smarts back. I've read the manual. It doesn't say how this happens, it just assures us that it does. I believe. I have to. Otherwise I'd have to kill myself!
