That would not be so pleasant to me.  I do understand the nature of that.

KABU

Inside jokes are like that but for the outsider, it may not be perceived as well.

i would have laughed then also. When we think of it the opposite if crying is laughing so that is from one extreme to the other and it cannot be helped.

some times black humour really eases a terrible situation...I mean when we were nursing...sometimes the talk over a coffee was terrible ..if heard by an outsider but we knew that we were coping.

I have found there are situations were laughter is the only sane option...And re Jimmy's story: How many of them kicked that ball?

Probably a reaction Doc., it is safer to agree with the majority. I just remembered I was in the Army and the sergeant made a joke, so he thought 'Shutting  the door after the horse has bolted.'  Everyone roared with laughter except muggings who had heard it a thousand times before. The sergeant then went to a great effort to explain how thick I was not to see his joke. I probably laughed in future.

Oh, yeah, I have had that happen a time or two...

Yeah, sometimes other's misfortunes can elicit a laugh or two from someone else, even if they actually feel sorry for what befell the other person. For example, many years ago, a group of us were walking down the street one evening when we passed a house where there appeared to be a rubber ball sitting near the driveway. One of the members of our group decided to kick the ball back up onto the lawn. With a mighty swing they lunged full-force and put all their weight into kicking that ball, only to find out it was actually a bowling ball! Needless to say, they screamed in pain with a broken foot, while the rest of us fell on the ground laughing hysterically! Of course we felt terrible as we sat in the emergency room while this unfortunate soul had a cast placed on their foot. Now they look back on the incident and laugh as well! But at the time . . .

That is a cute story, thanks for the smile.

It's like getting the urge to giggle at a funeral.

I get over things quicker if I can laugh. Often humor is cruel. Think Charlie Brown and all his friends - it's hard not to laugh when Lucy pulls the football at the last minute, partly because we know Charlie knew it was coming and went for it anyway.
