They were able to find a way to prevent the problem from happening again though attendance was still taken in the same manner.

That seems too be the norm in many schools. Hand written is preferred over using the technology as designed. For some it takes to long to use the computer, while others don't or cannot use.

Changing that system to a human being resposible for attendance etc. would be much more efficient.
