And what if the mechanism malfunctioned, as mechanisms often do, and flooded the cabin with nitrous when there was really no danger?? Oh yeah, that wouldn't be so bad, would it? Incidentally please pass that excellent pot your smoking around to the rest of us.

That could work
But does the plane have to be crashing first? Some people get nervous just flying. Maybe they could have it as an option - like watching a movie, or getting a drink?
