TAPS, you fix it just like I do! I LOVE fried okra. All the tips you gave are right on the money. Often folks in my office will start bringing their overabundance of okra to the office for any takers. I always pick out the little bity ones.

I've never tried Okra. If asked, I couldn't even describe what it looks like (no one has asked thus far...)

But this recipe sounds excellent (other than the part about the slime, which was a bit disturbing), and I'll be checking our local farmers market to see if it's available.

I dearly love fried okra, and this is the recipe that my Grandmother used and my Mother when I was growing up.  And it is the best one out there!

I LOVE fried green tomatoes!! And have never tried Okra, but will look around - there must be some here - and will try that recipe too.

Re: C_C_T

I'm sorry you didn't like the fried green tomatoes.  I think I'd better get out of the kitchen and let someone else take over the recipes.

Re: UtahJay

I'm with you on fear of slime.  There's no slime in the popcorn version, only crispy goodness.

Re: Kabu

I've never had the nerve to try it any other way.  Like UtahJay, I'm afraid of the slime.  LOL

Well Taps Arthur cooked green tomatoes in batter and corn oil and we did not like it much the birds seemed to relish it, I think they needed some seasoning. So I am not going to look out for young pods as I expect they will be past their prime here. I think it is the recipe that makes the food great.

I myself have never had okra nor do I ever recall seeing it. I remember one time there was a spoof on Oprah on the Nickelodeon Show All That where they called her Okra. Now I know why.

I could never bring myself to like okra. It may be because I grew up

in a northern state, and I think Okra is part of the Southern tradition. I will report that this morning I have assembled the second cornbread layered salad you shared with us a few weeks ago, and it is chilling in the fridge at this moment. You were absolutely correct in your blog that there's no worry about leftovers - it was gone, gone, gone in no time. Thanks for the recipe!
