I suppose sometimes  species develop undesirable traits and it may not be seen by the casual observer. It does need experienced workers to work within the historical pattern which many enjoy.

I prefer the historic designs, and they should definitely not remove established trees!

I don't really have an answer to your questions, but I am, and always have been, very appreciative of how well Kansas City Park Department keeps up the parks and the fountains, and is always improving one or the other of them.  I never have any complaints about the large park area close to our house except for an over-abundance of Canada geese and their excessive poop.
