In my town, Muslims and Jews are a sizable population in fairly equal measure. And a larger Christian presence. There is peace and a sense of community and connection here. I wrote about the mosque, temple and a Christian church facing each other and never having any problems with each other's activities or space. And there is my Muslim lung specialist who has given me excellent care and advice over the years. Same goes for family members who have been treated by a Jewish doctor, a female Muslim g.p., all with good results.
None of this is considered out of the norm or unusual by residents. And I believe it is the norm on a national scale, thankfully. Obviously and tragically extremism committed in the name of Islam is alive and still kicking, per insane beings. I believe Muslims are targeted (spied on, entrapped) everywhere in the U.S., the worst of it happening in bigger cities and I know anti semitism is also alive and well in the minds and hearts of American white supremacists, many of whom self identify as Christians. (my area does have some of those haters too, unfortunately.) Yet, evolved and mature people don't feel a need to denigrate, denounce any religion and/or demand "reformation" or change as dictated by non-followers because they understand that the majority of Muslims and their interpretations of their religious text and white, Christian men do not deserve to be hated and feared - Hate and fear are the same brand of emotionalism, imo, which feeds divisiveness and seeks overarching control.
Thought provoking post..
