Well said.

Your mother sounds like a sister to mine - appreciated most after a time of reflection.

Re: fsi

yes, you are so right,  its just sad that about the time you get the right perspective your loved ones are gone.

Re: lustor

age is just a state of mind, you are growing older, but not getting older.  look at all the things you keep busy doing and learning!!!

Re: jimmy

i have always heard that if you want to know what kind of husband a man will make, take note of how he treats his mother.  must be true.

Actually, this is how I feel sometimes about my late father. He was a bastard at times, but he was also always there for me, no matter what! I was always close to my mother, and although she lives a thousand miles away, I call her at least once a week to say Hi! and chat. When we're very young, we didn't always appreciate our parents. But as we age, we get a better understanding of what they went through in raising us, and I do everything I can for my mother now to show how much I love her and to thank her for all she's done for me throughout the years . . .

Well most of our mothers had a pretty hard time, she  knew what you would come up against as you absorbed the fickleness of nature. Folk were pretty secretive even in your mother's time, I suspect she sometimes had a job to put into words the blunt warning that should be given to every daughter. Not as though they will give a damn.

Isn't it amazing how the older we get, the smarter our mothers become? I also miss my mom. I like your line about her not being lovable, yet you loved her.
