I have a friend who refuses to go to any open-casket funeral ( even for a relative ) and for what I believe to be a very good reason. He would rather have his last memory of that person be of when were they were alive, and not lying prone in a casket! Oh, and the boxers vs. briefs debate . . . briefs, baby! Much, much more comfortable!

It's really for those left behind that we attend funerals, I think. Not too big on it myself, so understand Son. Love the quotes too.

Funerals are tough and I hope he does what's best for him. The quotes were great!  sam

I think he should go, just to pay last respects, but I guess you can't push him.

Better to be kind to someone than just woodenly praise at the end I think Taps. Although I always feel slightly guilty if I do not attend. I would not want to watch folk peeping down at me when I think about it.

Those are very interesting quotes.  Since my life has changed I am no longer expected to go to funerals, a pro of the situation. I hope you have many happy memories.

I myself am a boxer guy as well...Like your son, I am not too keen on going to viewings and funerals.

cant blame him if he doesnt like the funeral thing, with my dad we had a memorial service with a closed casket, we wanted people to remember him as he was

I fully agree with Son #1's choice of underwear and his aversion to funerals - we have both things in common. And Pat already pinched my line, so I'll only say that floating out to sea ain't all that bad, but not on an ice floe - too damn cold...

I am so sorry for your loss.  I bet Don is looking down from Heaven and smiling at those quotations.

I empathize with your son. I don't even want to attend my own funeral.

I think the Eskimo tradition has some merit - might be easier just to drift away on an ice floe and fall asleep in mid-ocean, no fuss, no muss. On the other hand, there's always some hugging and sharing at those gatherings, and a bit of counting your blessings.

Leave it to you to put a bit of spice into any situation. This was clever, loved it.

TAPS

óA few days ago I went up to the kitchen and turned around at the kitchen door. In this house the doors to the landlady Mrs. Sun’s bedroom and bathroom are in the kitchen. Mrs. Sun left the bathroom open. She sat on the toilet bowl with her nightgown pulled up but not revealing love. BC-A, Bill’s R®st
