We can tell a lot about people and with enough data a lot about cultures and subcultures within a society through language.

Language can be more or less neutral,

as mediators know. Language can be inflammatory, conciliatory, or 'open-ended' which is useful when one is trying to find out how people feel, what they believe, what they see happening...  But most people are not thinking of language as a tool or skill--only as a means of getting their needs met.
