I would hope that by now, most women would realize their own treasured beauty, and not continue to cover it with unnecessary make-up. As far as the powder on the arms, that's somewhat of a "slippery" subject. Soft, but slippery!

I hope you are busy making Pineapple Upside jar cakes. That would be beautiful with the pineapple slice in the bottom. You are an artist in all ways.

My parents were strict too. I did begin to wear lipstick after I was sixteen or so. Never heard of powdering arms. I still wear make up only when I think of it, that is not often. This was a really cute post.

My first eye make up when I was 17, I used to put on my eyes after I left

the house...but parents got used to their girls wearing makeup gradually. I never have worn much though.. powder the arms...that is silly.

The scarlet woman! I have never heard of powdering arms either. I only ever wore blush & a little eye makeup, but can remember some of those who really piled it on! It stopped just under their chins,; always found it looked like a mask.

When a young woman starts using make-up is much like a "coming of age" moment.  My father was also very strict but I loved experimenting.  And when I finally moved out of the family home I found my style - quite natural but always mascara and lipstick.  I still to this day walk around with lipstick in my pocket and re-apply as required LOL.  (Doesn't stay on as long as it used to).

That is interesting how he didn't let you and your sisters wear red.

Never was in the mainstream of makeupping...

I never heard of arm-powdering.  But I did get into makeup for theater a few years ago--my first gig was The Mikado.

Sometimes it seems to me times are again like the conservative '50s.

Maybe it was just because I was at that age, but I thought most grownups were uptight and moralistic, not interested in having any fun.  Come to think of it, it WAS because I was that age. My mom was an Avon lady, so my sis and I got lessons in wearing just enough makeup. She said a fresh young girl doesn't need to hang a neon sign (in makeup) to look pretty.

Go on Taps powder your arms perhaps it was for sleeveless gowns, anyway I don't think a lot of make up is good for the skin, better to just use itch repellent. Have a good day.
