Pannonian, thank you so much for your thoughtful commentary.  I agree, it would be a boring world indeed if we were all the same.  I included the word "self" intentionally.  It refers to the awakening of the "true self", sometimes referred to as the soul, that which lies dormant (asleep) while the ego, which thinks it knows everything, is in control.  The pearl within the oyster represents the truth which awakens the true self, and the oyster represents the adversary that wants to keep us in the dark.

Very nice and enjoyable. i sort of guessed what was coming after "for the oyster to fall asleep". I would probably have written "and for me to wake" leaving out the "self" but this is not meant as criticism, only as a comment. (And to reinforce the fact that we are all different - and wouldn't it be awful if we weren't?)
