The City

Mihail, in many ways we live in a socialist city.  Socialism has either failed drastically (in its extreme form, Communism) or slowed and degraded daily life wherever it has been tried. (Canada's per capita income is lower than Mississippi's).  Norway's is half that of the US.

If you ever visited the Eastern European cities before the fall of the USSR, you have a pretty good idea of the direction in which San Francisco is bound.  All of us pay a terrible price for our misplaced "compassion" - not least, those poor and otherwise disadvantaged toward whom that compassion is supposedly aimed.

If you are a homeless drug addict living on the sidewalk, does knowing that The City poured 200 million bucks into the pockets of of huge, Soviet-like agencies and bureaucrats help you as you slowly freeze to death during a January night because you're too crazy to take your meds, and the "Homeless Advocates" can't be bothered to pick up your dying carcass and haul it somplace warm because it might violate your "civil rights?"  How about this for a civil right: "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?"  I guess if the life involved is low enough on the socialist totem pole, it really doesn't count for much.
