WileyJohn - Re: gomedome - thank you

I do try to construct posts to be thought provoking but am the first to admit that I do not always pull it off.

My experiences with religion (which was also Catholic) were quite different. I drifted away in my early teens, caused by what I would like to call instinct but that is only for lack of a better word. I have to use a term like instinct to explain how a person so young could come to view many of the same inconsistencies you describe in the same light, while not being mature enough to fully comprehend the blatant hypocrisy.

gomedome

Your posts are usually, like this one, open to intelligent discourse. I love this; "Freedom of speech is not the right to say anything that comes into our heads to advance our own agendas or opinions. Whether we like it or not this includes religious opinions."

Actually this sort of thing caused me to stop going to church altogether some time ago. I couldn't abide listening to a priest do a homily that included advice to write to our MP and complain about things like abortion or birth control or other things that didn't have any business on a church agenda. The fact we have 3 priests in this one community who are awaiting sentencing on paedophilia, just blew my mind.

Oh I still have my own personal belief in a Higher Power, but He/She is not what we were raised with but I'm too old to be an atheist.

and political opininions. i am tired of politically correct everything but

i do agree with your excellent post. Spreading hate and fear lies and inciting to riot....there are times that so called freedom would remove another's right to freedom.

We must protect each other's freedom of speech.
