You might try talking to him and tell him you have a friend (me) John an ex mechanic that's been sober a long time (44years) because of AA and you just might motivate him to help himself.

yes it is very sad and it is amazing how some people live all their lives

never really sober. I knew a very well respected man in Sydney like that. Never saw him out of control, but never saw him sober either.

I agree with you; it's tough to watch a person who is consumed with the drink! But, it was great he could help you out! sam
