The way you use those words to describe this person makes me smile. But the picture I get in my head just disgusted me. I admit that I am not the cleaniest type, but at least I would keep myself tidy and clean when I'm around other people. I think to you, it's either be the 'first' (maybe the last) person to tell him about how you feel on his conditions, or you can just ignore him and keep yourself as tidy and clean as possible as a 'model' to him. Well, that's usually what I do.

Yeah, I think at one time or another, we've all had to deal with a similar co-worker. Talking to someone about their hygene or cleanliness is very difficult, and there's very rarely an easy solution ( unless everyone else gangs up on them, tackles them in the hallway, strips them, washes them, redresses them with clean clothes, and then goes about their business as if nothing happened! ) Have you considered a nose plug?

Re: If you can't ignore him, try to see what possible good is inside him that

Kabu,

I am trying to do just that! Even to the point of asking others about him--about his good qualities. I hope I can see them for myself soon.  But if not, I do not have to work too closely with him--just yet.

Re: How do you cope, you ask?...

WaterKat,

I wish it were that easy! But he shares an office with the person who is training me, and he often calls attention to himself.

If you can't ignore him, try to see what possible good is inside him that

has kept him in the job for 10 years. He sounds disgusting to me, I hope that he doesn't have to work too closely with you.

Re: CCT

I hate to say it, but I think I'd rather work on a farm than with this person! I've worked on farms before. I know what to expect, where, and when. With this coworker, I am still trying to figure all that out! So far I have counted a total of 4 Big-Gulp-sized drinks on said person's desk for more than 4 straight days and nights...cookie crumbs that were there since the day I started and have been added to....Etc, Etc. I won't even mention personal hygeine.

I really, really want to give this person the benefit of the doubt! I've found myself terribly wrong in the past about people based on their hygeine and habits, but this person just has NOT given me anything other than my first impression to go by!

Still, I hope and pray that someday I will come back to this post and write an update that I was terribly wrong about this person, and that this person has a great heart and just needs some guidance about cleanliness and hygeine.........

Well just think, if you worked in a farmyard, it would be probably much worse, one thing I shouldn't think it is harmful, it is the germs we don't see that we have to worry about.

I would put it down to training and wear clothes that could easily be washed.

Re: Thanks you, BC-A! I really do try!

But when I feel myself judging others, it makes me judge myself even more...ya know?
