Gomedome and Xeno, it still amazes me at times

that there are people who can spew the most vile racist and judgemental nonsense and say in the very next breath how "Christian" they are. It's confusing too because when you call them on it they will fall back on the Old Testament as justification for their hatred. The New Testament is apparently meaningless to these kinds of "Christians." And the hypocrisy of wars in the name of God and oppressing and killing others so that the "chosen peoples" can return to "their" lands is rampant and logic defying to the nth degree.
Sigh, well, I'm glad both of you are back!

sounds like the three of us are on the same page

I came back for the joy of expressing my opinion -- and a little spending cash (lol)

am not  so sensitive to the vitriol that can come

just want to enjoy good discourse with like minds

Katray2 - I wouldn't refer to what you are saying as whining

Not by a long shot. In much of what you say you are articulating my own experiences on this site in years past. The only difference being that I knew at the outset by posting divergent religious opinions in a forum with such a large Christian headcount what I was letting myself in for. Still, some of the reactions went far beyond anything that could be considered adult behavior, quite often enveloping vilification, ostracism, slander and sometimes even worse. All of these actions without exception undertaken by persons proclaiming their allegiance to the philosophies of Christianity.

I have returned from a long absence as well but this time around I am intent on taming down the rhetoric and ignoring that which rankles us both, at least as much as possible.

No hurt intended, Amanda - Sorry you feel that way...

There are religious zealots who call themselves Christian and they do practice hatred, judgemental righteousness and hpocrisy; this I have seen up close and personal. I'm not saying all Christians are of this stripe - I also know many who are true to the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Love and Grace - for those folks I give many Thanks.
I'm not sure what in my comment distressed you? If not the above, is it what I said about Blogit? Well, I did feel alone in my viewpoints concerning several issues and other rather strident bloggers.
Several stopped reading and commenting on my posts, one took
delight in mocking my intelligence and perspective because it was completely different than his own and he had followers who made sure to underscore his opinion of me.
Please understand, I'm not whining, we have freedom of speech and it is a glorious thing but it is also all encompassing and I felt that by exercising mine on this site I was distancing myself from the pleasure of writing and interacting - didn't feel like there was much point in continuing to pay for that! I guess you could say I became thin-skinned; well, with everything else going on in my life, guess I did. Hoping I'm over it now because silence is worse by far.

Re: No semblance whatsoever!

Katray,

I am a Christian.  However, I am no hyocrite.  I care for and accept all people.  Blanket statements like your comment are hurtful.  I would be glad to continue this discussion so that we can get to know each other for who we are.

No semblance whatsoever!

Hatred and wars in the name of one who tried to teach love and peace - mindblowing be the twists...Interesting post!
I am glad you have returned, Xeno. A little secret - I left only partly because of my health and writer's block, but also because Blogit has become a "singing to the choir - no others need apply" kind of site. I felt the odd woman out but I could not/can not turn a blind eye to lies and hypocrisy.
