Xeno-x - Re: i guess

With a moniker like that, and despite the worthy cause, it soon turns into a bowel movement because no one has the energy to try and spell the name.

But I am with you on not letting the hallelujah crowd dominate North American culture. I think we should begin a movement that does not allow an adherent to a religion that holds as a sacred tenet a doomsday or apocalyptic scenario. . . . to ever become the commander in chief of the world's largest nuclear arsenal.

Kabu: My immediate thought was Iran.... then the Spanish Inquisition ......

I am always reluctant to bring up ancient history but it is a point well stated. Theocratic rule, just like communism, has historically proven itself to be an unworkable system of moral and progressive governance.

i guess

that's what my movement, Antinouveauantidisestablishmentarianism, is about -- countering the rising influence of Christian Conservatism and its possible domination of our cultuer.

Amanda__ - your comment provides the key words

". . . it is important to respect all religions."

When one religion is declared as the official state religion; anyone with differing beliefs will likely incur subtle or even blatant state sponsored persecution. This has been true in all of the world's theocracies throughout history, without exception. So in reality, what proponents of an officially recognized state religion are telling us is that they are either ignorant of this history, or they intend to be the ones doing the persecuting.

Hi,

I think the separation of church and state is a good thing.  You might think this sounds strange coming from a Christian.  However, it is important to respect all religions.
