I feel much the same way about the ancient astronaut theory (AAT) in terms of attempting to apply it to any of the central icons of modern day religions. Even if they are amalgamate persons instead of real people, I have not heard a convincing argument that any of them are other than "homegrown" so to speak. As for the basis of the AAT which admittedly does have a substantial amount of physical evidence in ancient carving depictions and unexplained structures all over the world, I remain skeptical, conceding only that there are gaping holes in what we understand of our ancient history.

First of all: Welcome back! It'll be fun to read you again. I had also 'dropped out' for the better part of last year, but then thought better of it, and came back; and the need to subject myself to the discipline of producing a bit of verbiage on a regular basis was certainly one of the reasosn for my return...LOL
As to your question: I am not only an atheist, I am also an 'anextraterrestialist', LOL, and view the provenance of those two men as decidedly this-worldly. Allowing for the possibility, as has been suggested by some, that O' Mo did in fact not exist at all...

I am assuming by the using the word "cons" you are speaking of the self proclaimed social conservatives who have anointed themselves as spokespersons for the Republican party? ....they are fewer as well but I have to agree that they are every bit as comical as I remember.
The polarity of the 2 dominating political ideologies in Liberal and Conservative causing such divisiveness in all aspects of American society is a paradigm almost completely foreign to Canada. But make no mistake, we have our own collection of home grown knuckleheads, they are simply developing their half baked ideas from a different political foundation. Fortunately, religious influences are much less pronounced in Canadian political life.

TAPS. - my thoughts on the subject are similar
There are a great number of unanswered questions lying all over the world in the forms of archeological findings. There are numerous instances of what seems to be descriptions of technology by people without the vocabulary to do so found in all of the world's sacred texts. I have personally been to Chichen Itza and seen the carvings in the Mayan ruins depicting men in space suits but all of these things to me add up to more questions. The enthusiastic speculation of the ancient astronaut theorists undoubtedly offers some compelling and interesting arguments to explain these mysteries but it always seems to rely on the observer adopting the theorists mindset with little physical evidence . . . i.e. the remains of an ancient astronaut.

I returned to read your link and found that I have read pretty much all of that stuff before. All I can personally say about UFO's and extraterrestrial beings is that I will believe it when I see it. Also, I fully believe that if that is the way that God wanted to do things, it certainly would be within his power and dominion to bring it about.

I might re-enter the script that had the "Little Furry Bloggers rising up to heaven" or something similar. For now however, I am still trying to determine who is stilll here and who of the new people are active.
As for the ancient astronaut theory, I find the notion to be rife with enthusiastic speculation but must concede that it does pose a number of interesting and quite often unanswerable questions.
