abide by what elected officials might wish to legislate.

last I looked
he has our consent.
ours is a representative government -- this I learned in government classes in grade school and high school. this means we elect people to represent us, meaning they pass the laws they see best represent our interests -- they do not receive direct instructions from the populace.
we are a Republic, not a Democracy. A Democracy is where all the people decide by vote.
but let me ask you a question
do you think that those who have a religious agenda represent all of us?
do you think a small percentage of the populace should rule the rest of us?
