Re: did Jesus die?

many believe so.

some do not.

I am one who believes in Salvation; however, an explanation was needed to people who believe a sacrifice was necessary -- Jewish Christians -- those who believed the yearly Passover Sacrifice of the Lamb was.

Thus Jesus the Lamb of God.

Mark's Gospel leaves the story at the three woman standing at the entrance of the tomb at sunset after Sabbath and a young man telling them that Jesus is gone before them to Galilee.

The account of the crucifixion has irregularities in it -- things that do not happen at other crucifixions -- spear in the side, sponge of vinegar (some other substance) to Jesus' mouth, not breaking his legs to let him suffocate to death, and an early removal from the post by Joseph of Arimethea.

Since his life would be in jeopardy were the Jewish leaders to know, the disciples had to propound that he had died.  But it is not until the Apostle Paul's letters that we find the extensive "Christ died for the sins of the world." scenario.  From Paul, then, that word went out.

It is true in a way.  The scenario does release believers from captivity to the guilt of the law -- or of just plain guilt.

Re: Christians

others called them Christians at Antioch.

that is where they were first called Christians -- but by others.

my understanding is that they called themselves followers of "The Way" -- something like that.

So when followers at Antioch first referred to themselves as "Christians," were they disingenuous, not really following what Jesus taught?  What about those who are Marxists?  Don't they genuinely follow what Marx taught?
