Here's hoping that some angels have already come as friends..
to comfort you. Your plea brings up a more general concern in my mind.
All of us need a place more whole in which to live and, it has been clear to me for some time, this arrangement of little, disconnected houses does not and cannot fit the bill. I have not been able to bring myself to call any of the places where I have lived a "home". Those places only held a piece of my family and occasionally a few friends -- when we called it "The Klapper Hotel" -- but never enough of our circle of family and friends. The problem is not inside the house but what lies just outside the door. The house and others in the area have roads and not community between them. The others are called "neighbors", but that still does not that make that collection a "neighborhood".
Do you know what I mean? After my youngest is off to college, and I am no longer constrained to live close to my sprawl-loving ex, I think I will move into a college of my own devise and invite my friends and family to join me in building a community we can all call home.
