Isn't this the nature of condolences
You have captured it beautifully, and this feeling of not knowing people yet them feeling close because they are family.
Recently I called a cousin. I had felt bad about not being more since her mother, probably my favourite had died. I was overseas when it happened and time passed. So I just phoned and realised I can do this any time. And yet i don't often.
