Very true indeed...

Thank you for stopping by. Although the stigma is lifting slowly, it is very much still alive. It troubles me to know that many of my colleagues, as educated as they are, firmly house this stigma deeply within their belief system.

Cinical depression is very real; there should be little stigma attached to it among those who are either educated or enlightened (same thing) enough to comprehend. My best to you. Be well.

I Sympathize With You

Your story was sad indeed, but always no you are not alone.  I have a daughter in her forties with clinical depression, as you may know it  is worse in the winter, I'm not talking about SAD.  I do hope you learn to love yourself more and stay distant from those who do not understand, or even care.  Mandy

Re: Dark_Dreamer....

Dear Rumor,

What a shame about the church and perspective there. Depression is a tough cookie to understand and  I am happy that you shared with us (and moi) ... thank you very much

Re: I would watch. What's its duration, by the way?
2 hours ...... It is hard to watch for those who need high action .... but well worth it.

Dark_Dreamer....
I've contended with clinical depression since 1987 and most people who know me know it...and yes, there are those who don't believe in depression and just pass it off as being "all in your mind"...the pastor of our former church even feels that way (notice I said former..:)....

Thank you all very much for responding!!!!! Each comment I read was .......
very emotional for me in one way or another. To know you are not alone and that other people feel, understand or have empathy/compassion regarding this subject (depression) is truly comforting. Depression - the word people hate to say. It has been debilitating/paralyzing at times .... The flip side are the loved ones that see us (the depressed) trying to live and fight .... they hurt too. The individuals who do not judge and stand by their loved ones are just wonderful and amazing people. This may sound silly but I want a group hug (hehehehe) ... I suppose it is because I know personally what this illness does. I am a fighter. I am strong. I am in-tune. I know my flaws. However, when the wave hits it hits hard and there is nothing I can do to prevent it .... thank you blogit family ...

Þ For myself something like a DVD or the radio when I’m alone helps me focus on something else other than my issue. In the hospital a DVD got me through my mother in the ICU. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

I'll have to watch it...I find it incredibly unfortunate that in some places that depression is viewed as being something that one should just get over. If it wasn't real people would not experience it.

I know, like you know ...a very touching post.

More people should be made aware of how devastating depresion can be... and how real its cripling effects are on those who suffer from it.  "Helen" is an excellent movie... Thank you for speaking out on this subject.  xoxoxo

I've had minor bouts of it myself
and have seen the awful effects of being severe and untreated with family members. You are correct that those who have had no experience with it tend to minimize the disease and yes society as a whole has been downright cruel in regard to mental illness of any kind. Hopefully things will continue to open up and more and more people will view depression as the health condition that it is instead of a personality or character flaw. Good for you in the efforts of enlightenment and I will definitely be watching this movie as soon as I have the opportunity. Thank you for the thumbs up!
