TAPS, the term "jump the shark"
came from the TV show Happy Days. There was an episode where Fonzie jumped over a shark with his motorcycle and to some people the show went downhill from there

I never heard the term "jumped the shark" before. I never was a watcher of Murphy Brown, maybe that's why.
